Bugis Junction Food Trail - Featuring Platypus Kitchen

SECOND STOP.

PLATYPUS KITCHEN
#03-29/29A
Tel: (+65) 6333 4434

Know why I blog about this last?

Cause I'm leaving the best for the last!
THIS IS HEREBY MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT IN BUGIS JUNCTION.

This restaurant is a MUST GO.

Classy interior.
(Suitable for romantic dates etc.)

This chair and table you see,
it's mounted ON the wall, means above a real set of tables and chairs!

How interesting.

Truffled Fries
SGD$6.90

This was the first, YET, my FAVORITE dish of all!!
Gosh..the taste was so incredibly heavenly.

I kept munching on this throughout the whole session there!
REALLY WISHED I COULD TAKE AWAY.

And seriously,
based on the quality.
THIS FRIES IS TOTALLY WORTH THE PRICE.

Or rather, it feels like it'll cost around $13/+ in other gourmet restaurants!

MUST TRY!!

Risotto Balls
SGD$8.90

This is a really interesting dish!
Looks like cheese ball or some sort of meat stuff right?

BUT NO.

It's Risotto (rice) balls stuffed with Mozzarella cheese.
(Breaded in panko deep fried and served over rich pumpkin puree)

How did it taste?
Cheesy!
Just the way I like it.

Personally think that 3 of these Risotto balls are enough to make a lunch meal.

Crab Cakes
SGD$12.90

Saffron and Caviar Risotto
SGD$19.90

Spicy Diablo Crab and Prawn
SGD$18.50

First thing that came to my mind when I heard this dish was..
DIABLO 3

Truffle Carbonara
SGD$16.50

Not sure if it's coincidence but..
I LOVE THIS CARBONARA SO BAD.

Maybe I just love their truffle dishes.
But it was really SO nice that I could practically finish the whole plate if I were to dine there! I mean, usually when you eat carbonara, you'll probably get sick of the taste when you're 3/4 or sometimes 1/2 done only!

BUT THIS.
IS DIFFERENT.

The taste is not too strong but yet enough to linger in your mouth to tempt you for another bite of it! Topped with my favorite smoked bacon!

MUST TRY!!!

I strongly believe that the other pastas were nice too.
But because of my seafood allergy, I wasn't able to indulge in the others :(

Squid Ink Scallops Ragout
SGD$16.50

Pressed Pork Belly
SGD$19.90

When I saw this dish, I was expecting more of a salty (Chinese style) taste.
But when I ate it, once again, it left me munching in awe.

This pork belly was actually cooked together with braised apples.
APPLES.
Who'd have thought of that?!!

Besides the slight salty taste of the crispy pork belly, there was a faint sweetness of the braised apple that you could taste in this dish!

REALLY INTERESTING.

MUST TRY!!!

Iced Sea Salt Caramel
SGD$8.90

I TOTALLY LOVE THIS TOO.

My fav SEA SALT CARAMEL.
Topped with popping candy!!

When you placed it in your mouth, you could feel the pinch of saltiness then the overwhelming caramel taste and pop pop pop goes the candies in your mouth!

Must Try!!!

Sweet heart shaped!
How meticulous in their presentation of the dishes.

AND IN CASE YOU WONDER,

Why do I strongly recommend this restaurant.

1. The food is REALLY awesome. No lies at all.
(In fact I never lie in any of my food reviews. If I say it's nice, IT IS NICE.)

2. The price is SUPER affordable.
Or should I say, considerably cheap for such good quality food.

One thing I admire about Platypus Kitchen is their spirit.
They aim to make all gourmet food (superb tasting food) affordable.

EVERY SINGLE DISH ON THEIR MENU IS BELOW SGD$20.

And Platypus Kitchen really take pride in their products and service.

The food they serve, are 95% replica of what's show in the menu!
(Just prolly differential of scale DOH.)

Don't believe?
Compare the pictures I took and their menu pictures!

And I deeply remember what Nick (the owner) said to us:
"I don't like false representation of my food. I believe that the food we serve should look similar to the ones you see in the menu"

Seriously.
This is one of the restaurants/company that truly impress me.

And here's Nick!

Autographing his cookbook
(that's given to me and the other bloggers)!

Now now,
Don't be envious of mecause Nick was really kind and offered to give out 2 copies of his award winning cookbook

BACHELOR'S BANQUET.

Bugis Junction Food Trail - Featuring Honguo 红锅

EIGHTH STOP.

HONGUO 红锅
#B1-06
Tel: (+65) 6884 4717

I've heard my mum talking about this restaurant before but never had the chance to drop by for a visit cause I usually dine Western/Japanese.

So this is the first time I'm trying the food out,
And I'm surely coming back for more!

Cute menu design!

Zhuang Yuan Mi Xian
SGD$8.80

This dish consists of 15 ingredients!
(As seen in the pictures)

Friendly staff mixing the ingredients one by one for us! :)

Generally don't really like the soup taste due to the strong spring onion taste.
And also the prawns that are put inside made the soup have some prawn taste.
(Btw, I'm allergic to most seafoods)

But I think that if I were to mix it on my own, I'll not mix those in and it'll actually taste pretty awesome!
Plus it's only $8.80 for so much!!

Going to head back down to eat this (my way)!

Sze Chuan Chicken in Basket
SGD$7.50

XO Fried Seafood Noodle
SGD$8.80

I LOVE THIS NOODLE.
Though I had very little due to the seafood, but it's super nice!!

Minced Pork Lettuce Wrap
SGD$6.80

Like this too! But it's a little too spicy for me.
But the taste of the minced pork's salty plus the refreshing lettuce wrap.
NICE.

Salted Dog
SGD$forgottheprice

Super love this!
This is plum + sprite + tiny salt bits at the tip of the cup.

The taste is PERFECT.
My mum loved it so much that after dining previously she came back and made it at home!

Pumpkin Fries with Salted Egg Yolk
SGD$6.80

THIS IS MY FAVORITE DISH.

The taste is not too sweet and not too salty.
I really don't know how to describe it, but it was so nice.

Bugis Junction Food Trail - Featuring NYDC

SIXTH STOP.

NYDC
#02-47/48
Tel: (+65) 6333 3161

Believe many of you know about NYDC!
About their pretty interior and awesome western food.

BUT DID YOU KNOW THAT..
THEY ACTUALLY SELL FREAKING AWESOME DESSERTS.

Seriously, I didn't know until this food tasting!

Super pretty chandler!

Boo Boo
SGD$6.80/slice
SGD$62/whole

You know, the first thing I thought of when I heard Boo Boo was the cartoon Yogi Bear, there's a little yet smart bear in the cartoon called Boo Boo! Hahaha.

But anyway!

I SWEAR THIS CHOCOLATE CAKE
(with light whipped cream)
IS DAMN GOOD.
NO JOKE, REALLY GOOD.

Even though this was our 6th station and I was feeling kind of filled,
I HAD TWO SLICES OF IT!!
I wanted to eat more but we had to head to our next station already!

Omg, just by seeing this photo I can remember the taste of it.
It's sweet but not extreme and doesn't taste like the normal chocolate cakes out there.
I believe they used a high quality of chocolate to make this!

AND ONE PIECE IS NEVER ENOUGH.

Goldmine Cheesecake
SGD$7.20/slice
SGD$68/whole

New York Cheesecake with Oreo base and chocolate fudge topping!!

I didn't try this cause I have phobia of eating cheesecake with Oreo.
(Personal bad experience cause of 747!)
But it looks really appetising!! And smells good!

Yea, I'm serious.
I could smell the cheeeeeeeese~

Bloggers at work!

3-some
SGD$11.80/slice

Everyone was practically laughing away and thinking crooked at this cake's name!

YES, IT IS CALLED THREESOME.

It's a mudpie with 3 flavors of ice cream:
CHOCOLATE CHIP DOUGH
STRAWBERRY
STRAWBERRY CHEESECAKE

So yes, you get 3 flavors of ice cream in ONE mudpie!
How awesome is it!
(especially like the strawberry cheesecake flavour)

Jedi Mudster
SGD$11.80/slice

TEMPTING HUH?

Reason why it's like melted cause we're all busy taking turns to snap photos.
But my mum say it looks more tempting like this!!

This mudpie is made up of 2 flavors of ice cream and a Oreo base:
Double Chocolate Chip
Macadamia Nut
Topped with chocolate fudge and whipped cream and homemade cookie chunk!
