Bugis Junction Food Trail - Featuring Platypus Kitchen

SECOND STOP.

PLATYPUS KITCHEN
#03-29/29A
Tel: (+65) 6333 4434

Know why I blog about this last?

Cause I'm leaving the best for the last!
THIS IS HEREBY MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT IN BUGIS JUNCTION.

This restaurant is a MUST GO.

Classy interior.
(Suitable for romantic dates etc.)

This chair and table you see,
it's mounted ON the wall, means above a real set of tables and chairs!

How interesting.

Truffled Fries
SGD$6.90

This was the first, YET, my FAVORITE dish of all!!
Gosh..the taste was so incredibly heavenly.

I kept munching on this throughout the whole session there!
REALLY WISHED I COULD TAKE AWAY.

And seriously,
based on the quality.
THIS FRIES IS TOTALLY WORTH THE PRICE.

Or rather, it feels like it'll cost around $13/+ in other gourmet restaurants!

MUST TRY!!

Risotto Balls
SGD$8.90

This is a really interesting dish!
Looks like cheese ball or some sort of meat stuff right?

BUT NO.

It's Risotto (rice) balls stuffed with Mozzarella cheese.
(Breaded in panko deep fried and served over rich pumpkin puree)

How did it taste?
Cheesy!
Just the way I like it.

Personally think that 3 of these Risotto balls are enough to make a lunch meal.

Crab Cakes
SGD$12.90

Saffron and Caviar Risotto
SGD$19.90

Spicy Diablo Crab and Prawn
SGD$18.50

First thing that came to my mind when I heard this dish was..
DIABLO 3

Truffle Carbonara
SGD$16.50

Not sure if it's coincidence but..
I LOVE THIS CARBONARA SO BAD.

Maybe I just love their truffle dishes.
But it was really SO nice that I could practically finish the whole plate if I were to dine there! I mean, usually when you eat carbonara, you'll probably get sick of the taste when you're 3/4 or sometimes 1/2 done only!

BUT THIS.
IS DIFFERENT.

The taste is not too strong but yet enough to linger in your mouth to tempt you for another bite of it! Topped with my favorite smoked bacon!

MUST TRY!!!

I strongly believe that the other pastas were nice too.
But because of my seafood allergy, I wasn't able to indulge in the others :(

Squid Ink Scallops Ragout
SGD$16.50

Pressed Pork Belly
SGD$19.90

When I saw this dish, I was expecting more of a salty (Chinese style) taste.
But when I ate it, once again, it left me munching in awe.

This pork belly was actually cooked together with braised apples.
APPLES.
Who'd have thought of that?!!

Besides the slight salty taste of the crispy pork belly, there was a faint sweetness of the braised apple that you could taste in this dish!

REALLY INTERESTING.

MUST TRY!!!

Iced Sea Salt Caramel
SGD$8.90

I TOTALLY LOVE THIS TOO.

My fav SEA SALT CARAMEL.
Topped with popping candy!!

When you placed it in your mouth, you could feel the pinch of saltiness then the overwhelming caramel taste and pop pop pop goes the candies in your mouth!

Must Try!!!

Sweet heart shaped!
How meticulous in their presentation of the dishes.

AND IN CASE YOU WONDER,

Why do I strongly recommend this restaurant.

1. The food is REALLY awesome. No lies at all.
(In fact I never lie in any of my food reviews. If I say it's nice, IT IS NICE.)

2. The price is SUPER affordable.
Or should I say, considerably cheap for such good quality food.

One thing I admire about Platypus Kitchen is their spirit.
They aim to make all gourmet food (superb tasting food) affordable.

EVERY SINGLE DISH ON THEIR MENU IS BELOW SGD$20.

And Platypus Kitchen really take pride in their products and service.

The food they serve, are 95% replica of what's show in the menu!
(Just prolly differential of scale DOH.)

Don't believe?
Compare the pictures I took and their menu pictures!

And I deeply remember what Nick (the owner) said to us:
"I don't like false representation of my food. I believe that the food we serve should look similar to the ones you see in the menu"

Seriously.
This is one of the restaurants/company that truly impress me.

And here's Nick!

Autographing his cookbook
(that's given to me and the other bloggers)!

Now now,
Don't be envious of mecause Nick was really kind and offered to give out 2 copies of his award winning cookbook

BACHELOR'S BANQUET.

Reason why I want to win this cookbook: I think it's very inspirational that the cook you mentioned is making gourmet food available for the masses and because of that I really want to take a look at how his brain works through the book. At the same time, I've always wanted to cook "restaurant-worthy" dishes at home so I think winning this cook book will be a really good first step (: Please pick me!! Hahahaha
